I don't know who invented those cute little faces we have the option of dropping into our e-mail messages but as the adage goes, a picture is worth a thousand words. I love being able to select a face to describe how I am feeling when I write an e-mail. And I love the avatar I created for myself on Yahoo. When I open up my email I see a young, spritely redhead smiling back at me, and for a few seconds I can almost believe it's really me. When I played online poker and suffered a bad beat, I loved being able to enter an emoticon into the text box to describe my anger without actually cursing and getting booted from the site. We are emotional creatures. Long live the smileys, the emoticons and the avatars that let us express ourselves online.
